"If there is any secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view and see things from that person's angle as well as from your own"....Henry Ford, taken from the book How To Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie.

I'm not sure about success, but it seems for a relationship to thrive there needs to be some understanding from both sides....and also a respect for each other's differences....

The following is taken from Dale Carnegie's Scrapbook....

"A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall. Speak what you think now in hard words, and tomorrow speak what tomorrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradicts everything you said today. 'Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.' Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood"....Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Some great names were certainly misunderstood....but many of them spoke the truth and years sometimes decades later....they were understood :-)  Experiencing life seems to bring understanding.  It is as if we are shown a truth and then taught a lesson and allowed to realize the truth on our own. Here is a quote for that :-) Something to the effect that "we like to learn things by ourselves" :-) There is also another one which says "we can't really teach anyone anything it is there inside us all the time"....I can see the truth in this one for the first time!!!
