And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair....Kahlil Gibran.
For the month of September, Quote of the Day will be featuring Kahlil Gibran. I was first attracted to Gibran's writings when I read excerpts from The Prophet, currently said to be the most widely read book in the world. Since then, I have read more of Gibran's writings and have found that he basically agrees with Leo Buscaglia....love is the key to life. However, he is much more reserved :-) Kahlil Gibran was an essayist, philosopher, poet, and artist from Bsharri, Lebanon, born in 1883. His writings are very romantic and strongly influenced by the Bible. He immigrated to America in 1895, first to Boston and later settled in New York City, where he spent the remainder of his life until his death in 1831. In Gibran's book The Beloved, it is said that "For Kahlil Gibran, love was a way--perhaps the supreme way--of achieving self-realization and completeness as a human being. 'The Beloved' is about transforming one's own life through love's all-consuming power." These words taken from "Ancient Poets," author unknown, best summarize Kahil Gibran's purpose in writing...."Kahlil's work is the wisdom of the east packaged for the west yet holds the flavor of this lover of love truth and beauty as he writes from his own soul unto the soul of us all. His message is to encourage us to join him in his love not to save our souls but to provide an environment by which our souls may freely grow as each is encouraged by the light of each other. His love for us is like an older brother striving to steer us with poetic voice away from the suffering of an unforeseen catastrophe into the bliss of an eternal promised land through which society evolves beyond the barriers of a closed heart unto the common unity of our open heart's celebration. His message is that love is no mystery that remains unknown, but is the light through which we can only grow."
